Cr. Helene Butler

Cr. Butler was elected to Council in November 2008.
Her interests include spending time with her children and family, reading, handicrafts and listening to music.
Cr. Butler has been actively involved with the Queenscliff Kindergarten, St Aloysius Primary School, Parents and Friends committees, Fundraising Auctions, Playgroups and Family, ‘Children’s Services’ Network and the Queenscliff High School Site Steering Committee.

Cr. Lloyd Davies

Cr. Davies was elected to council in November 2008.
He is passionate about bringing the community's views to council and protecting the environment.
He works as a Civil Engineer and has a degree in Marine Biology.
His interests include scuba diving, research, hiking and beach cricket.

Cr. Mitchell was elected to Council in November 2008.
His interests include facilitating greater community involvement, boating and enjoying Queenscliff and its unique natural environment.
Cr. Mitchell is a retired Corporate Banker, a past member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants and has a Masters Degree in Urban Management.

History of Queenscliffe Council

The Borough of Queenscliffe was created on 12 May 1863 under Schedule B. No.54, Queenscliffe; of the Municipal Institutions Act No. 184 – an act to consolidate and ammend laws relating to Municipal Institutions.

The first Municipal Council elections under this act were conducted by Mr. William T.Mollison, the Police Magistrate.

The first Councillors were:

  • Dr. David John Williams (Mayor)
  • Thomas Howard Fellows (MLC)
  • William John Craig
  • William Leihy
  • William Pagan
  • William Wright (JP)
  • Dr. Alexander P. L. Robertson

The first Council meetings are said to have been held in Pilot's Row, Gellibrand Street, near the Fort.

The current Council were elected in November 2008 and under the Local Government Act (1989) are elected for a four year term.

At the 2008 elections the number of Councillors was reduced from seven to the current five.

Each Councillor is appointed a portfolio area some also have delegations to various Boards, Committees and Associations which are listed in their profiles on this page.

The previous councillors were: Pat Semmens (Mayor), John Bugg, John Burgess, John Doull, Val Lawrence, Stephen Lee and Chris Player.
